Emerging Playwrights & Poets Festival
January 19 & 20, 2024
Entries are now being accepted through October 15, 2023 for the 2024 festival.
We are looking for original, one act plays to be preformed on stage, as well as spoken word poetry.
All entries must be emailed. Videos and handwritten copies will not be accepted. Please include your: first and last name, cell phone and preferred email. Email your scripts and poems to Lori Carmine, Park Manager:
lcarmine@joliet.gov by October 15, 2023.
All entries will be reviewed by our panel. Selected one acts and poems will be notified the first week of November. Playwrights selected will receive a $100 stipend and poets $25 per poem after the performance.
If chosen, authors of short plays are responsible for: readying their script for stage, keeping props and set to a minimum, selecting their actors and rehearsing them on your own time and location.
We will give each entry a night to rehearse on the stage before presenting. One act plays should be 10 – 30 minutes long. Poets will also have time on stage to rehearse, if desired.
Playwrights & Poets Fest
Kicking off 2023 with creative original works on stage!
After a couple years of rest and isolation, the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park and Theatre welcomes a new iteration of the Emerging Playwrights Festival. Now known as the Playwrights and Poets Festival, this indoor theatre event will be held Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28 at 7:00 pm.
This year not only are there new short one-act plays written by area authors, but also new original poetry. This is a true celebration of the creative writing talent in the area.
Unlike past years, the judging has already taken place. A panel of judges has given their feedback, and these are the selected entries.
Featured authors include Phoebe Carmine, Maria Fischer, Allison Fradkin, Todd Hogan, Amy Jackson, Allison Pater, G William Zorn, and more.
Admission is $5. Tickets may be purchased online, with no additional fees.
The lobby doors will open at 6:00 pm, with concessions and libations available to purchase.
Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park and Theatre is at 201 West Jefferson Street, downtown Joliet, 60432.
